Although our society caters to instant gratification, some things just can’t be rushed. Time feels like it stands still when awaiting the birth of a baby. Mary and Joseph had been waiting for months and the wait finally came to an end.
“…the time came for her to give birth. And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in swaddling cloths and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn.” (Luke 2:6b-7 ESV)
God chose the exact timetable when the religious, cultural and political conditions were in place to bring history to fulfillment in the long awaited Messiah – the birth of Jesus Christ.
Waiting for God’s timing in our own life can be a great challenge. His timing continues to prove to be perfect even when our trust is not. Whether you desire to hurry the arrival of a joyful event, rush past the pain of your current heartache, or receive the desire of your heart we can remain hopeful in spite of our wait! The birth of Jesus is the fulfillment of what God said He would do. Jesus is evidence that God always keeps His promises.
Take a moment to thank God for His perfect timing in your own life and remind yourself of Isaiah 40:31.
31 But those who wait on the Lord
Shall renew their strength;
They shall mount up with wings like eagles,
They shall run and not be weary,
They shall walk and not faint. Isaiah 40:31 (NKJV)
