Painted Rock

Naomi

What an eventful picnic at the park!  Alone with two grandkids for the weekend with no parents.  Titus (2-year-old grandson) threw up after a fast pace merry go round ride (“go faster papa”) was too soon after our picnic lunch!  I’ve never seen mommas grab their kids and flee so fast.

Naomi (5-year-old granddaughter) found a painted rock placed under a tree.  I googled the text painted onto the back of the rock and was led to an article explaining the purpose of the hidden rocks all around Kentucky.  They are to bring awareness to the Kentucky drug epidemic.

Rock finders were instructed to post a photo on social media then hide the rock in a new location for the next person to find.  But Naomi let us know with big crocodile tears that she had no interest in giving up her treasure. She was keeping her rock!  We creatively helped her see the value in hiding the rock and she reluctantly found a new hiding place.

Years ago, a beautiful Rock found me!  I clung to it and it has changed my life.  We sing about it in church: “On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand; All other ground is sinking sand.”

The Christian hymn, “My Hope Is Built on Nothing Less” refers to the Parable of the Wise and the Foolish Builders.  It’s a metaphor of Christ as the Rock!

and all drank the same spiritual drink. For they drank from the spiritual Rock that followed them,  and the Rock was Christ.  1 Corinthians 10:4 (ESV)

I long and hope for the day when Naomi & Titus experiences Christ as their solid Rock!  I’m confident there will be tears involve – they will be mine.

Is your hope built on Christ?  All other ground is sinking sand!
