Mountaintop Experience!

We relived our ride on the chair lift but mom wouldn’t let me sit on her lap!

My family traveled to town to join me in celebrating my 50th birthday.  Yes, I’m 50! We visited the Natural Bridge State Park and enjoyed the beautiful views of the Red River Gorge and embraced the sandstone rock bridge called the Natural Bridge.

Upon arriving on the mountaintop, we began the short .11-mile hike toward the bridge.  The rains had left the trail sloppy and I had mistakenly worn my new tennis shoes and was carefully measuring each step to avoid the puddles.

Half way up the trail I looked up and the view took my breath away.  Suddenly, I was reminded, “I’m on top of a mountain!”  I had been so focused on each of my steps that I completely missed the amazing view right before me.

This is a pattern in my life.  I get so caught up in the steps of today and the task set before me that I completely neglect to look up and enjoy the view.  I often neglect the very precious people God has placed before me.

“The LORD will fulfill his purpose for me…”  Psalm 138:8a (ESV)

Friend, today as we choose to walk in the truth of the above verse, let’s take the opportunity to look up! Take a good look around and appreciate the view!  God never intended for us to be so focused on each step that we completely miss His many blessings surrounding us!

We missed you Michelle!  Michelle is my older sister who is in the above photo.
