Everyone should go to church late – occasionally. This morning we pulled into the church parking lot much later than normal. Almost every spot was taken. It was like Christmas at the mall with cars cruising the lot in search of the few available openings. Two cars approaching, each questioning who will get there first. But since it was a church, there was hope that the other driver may be more spiritually mature. Perhaps they would love their neighbor as self.
With parking secured, we quickly made our way into the building, excited to be part of worship. We were greeted at every door by those who were sincerely happy to see us.
Steve suggested we sit in the balcony but my expression must have encouraged him to lead us straight into the sanctuary where worship had already begun. The pastor pointed us in the direction of open seating. We found our spot and immediately joined in on worshipping our Savior. He powerfully spoke to each of us through the message. Steve even asked to see my notes at lunch and suggested we listen to the podcast.
After a few minutes speaking to friends, we walked back to our car to an almost empty parking lot. How did all those cars evacuate so quickly?
I sank into my seat thankful that we had experienced the truth of Hebrews 10: 24-25:
24 And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, 25 not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.
Showing up late sure didn’t interfere with our ability to worship and our needed fuel for the week ahead. We even discovered there is room for you! Would you join us next week and be part of the God sized movement that is filling our hearts and filling the parking lot? We promise to be on time and you can ride with us to share a parking spot! We’ll even move over in the pew to give you our spot!
