Driving my husband’s pickup truck helps me feel connected to my country roots and it only seems right to haul something in the truck bed. As I approached the malfunctioning traffic light on main street, the traffic safety office signaled my stop. The brakes are much more sensitive than my vehicle and my less than graceful stop caught the officer’s attention. Traffic lights in our community are known for being extra-long, but it felt like I sat forever and a day waiting before he finally waived his baton giving me the signal to make the turn and move on.
I thought, “How cool would it be if I had a safety officer always with me to signal my every life step! Every time I sat at a crossroads, he could let me know which way to turn and when to make the move.”
The Holy Spirit immediately impressed upon my heart, “You do! I am your guide!”
13 When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth,
for he will not speak on his own authority,
but whatever he hears he will speak,
and he will declare to you the things that are to come.
John 16:13 English Standard Version (ESV)
Do you acknowledge God when making decisions on the direction you should go? In all honesty, it’s usually not the acknowledging God part that I struggle. I’ve learned to welcome His direction over my life. My struggle often comes in the waiting – waiting for the signal to move on. Waiting on God’s perfect timing can feel like forever and a day.
How about you? Are you sitting at a crossroad waiting on God’s direction or timing to make your move? Let’s cling together to the following truth:
5 Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. 6 In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.
Proverbs 3:5-6 English Standard Version (ESV)
In the meantime, you might want to look out for me if I’m driving the truck. Those breaks are hard to get used to.

Thanks Gloria – just what I’ve been needing to hear lately – admonishment, encouragement and the promise of His guidance.
Donna, so glad you found encouragement! And glad I’m not walking the path alone!
