Do you like to eat leftover Christmas food? Can you imagine if you had to eat leftover Christmas food EVERY meal for 40 years?
After years of wilderness wandering God led the people to the boarder of the Promised Land and instructed them to “go in and take possession” (Joshua 1:11)
It’s very important that we not miss what happened concerning their food after they obeyed!
11 And the day after the Passover, on that very day, they ate of the produce of the land, unleavened cakes and parched grain. 12 And the manna ceased the day after they ate of the produce of the land. And there was no longer manna for the people of Israel, but they ate of the fruit of the land of Canaan that year.
(Joshua 5: 10 – 12 (NKJV) Emphasis added)
God sustained them all those years in the wilderness by providing manna. Manna means “what is it?” Did you eat anything over Christmas and wonder, “What is it?” They ate food that they did not know what it was and it sustained them. Every day they were to collect just enough for that day! (Exodus 16:4)
Now that they had crossed over, “the manna ceased the day after they ate of the produce of the land.” Can you even begin to imagine how delicious that first meal of the product of the land tasted after years of eating manna?
Have you been spiritually sustained? Are you spiritually eating (reading God’s Word) just enough to get by? Are you hungry to eat of the produce of the land? We were created to thrive spiritually rather than sustaining. For many years, I have prayed regularly for God to give myself and my family an insatiable desire for His Word. If you do not hunger for God’s Word, ask God now to give you a hunger to nourish spiritually. If you already consistently thrive spiritually, ask God to give you an even deeper hunger for His Word.
Let’s choose daily to feast on the produce of the land. The fruit that comes from pouring into God’s Word is rewarding! He is an incredible teacher and is faithful to speak to us through His Word.
