Needed: The Wisdom of God

What are your greatest responsibilities?  Do you have others relying upon your leadership or service? Since I find my life quite full these days, I am more committed to praying larger, more specific prayers.  I am consistently asking God for wisdom and exceedingly great understanding, and largeness of heart like the sand on the seashore.  (1 Kings 4:29) And I expectantly anticipate His answer!

I found incredible encouragement reading about Queen Sheba’s experience of visiting King Solomon in 2 Chronicle 9: 1-3.

Now when the queen of Sheba heard of the fame of Solomon, she came to Jerusalem to test him with hard questions… And when she came to Solomon, she told him all that was on her mind. And Solomon answered all her questions. There was nothing hidden from Solomon that he could not explain to her. And when the queen of Sheba had seen the wisdom of Solomon…there was no more breath in her.  2 Chronicles 9  (ESV)

God is infinitely wise!  Let’s tell Him everything that is on our mind.  There is nothing hidden from God that He cannot explain to us should He choose to do so! God supplied Solomon with wisdom and He supplies you and me with wisdom too.  According to James, all we must do is ask God and wisdom will be given generously.  (James 1:5)

Paul was moved to praise when he tried to talk about the wisdom of God in Romans 11:33-36 (ESV): “Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments and how inscrutable his ways! “For who has known the mind of the Lord, or who has been his counselor?”  “Or who has given a gift to him that he might be repaid?”  For from him and through him and to him are all things…”

Even when our circumstances look much greater than our wisdom and understanding, “The wisdom of God tells us that God will bring about the best possible results, by the best possible means, for the most possible people, for the longest possible time.” (Chip Ingram quoting Charles Ryrie in God: As He Longs For You To See Him, p. 128.)

Dear God, give us the wisdom we need for this day!
