A unique end to another trip to Nashville! We hugged our family goodbye including our almost 38-week pregnant daughter anticipating the birth of our 3rd grandbaby.
On our way out of town, feeling a bit blue from the tearful goodbye, I had a desire to do something touristy! Do you want to know what we did?
We headed to The Pancake Pantry where we joined the long line of patrons wrapped around the building. Two ladies ahead of us abandoned the slow-moving line, crossed the street for a no wait experience. We moved forward and conversed with the happy couple ahead of us who had traveled from North Carolina who left their kids behind to enjoy a weekend birthday celebration.
Each step forward helped me leave behind my goodbye sadness and anticipate feasting on the best pancakes in Nashville.
As we turned the corner and approached the entrance I wondered if the line continued inside the building. How much longer must we wait? The regular patrons reassured us once inside it would go quickly. As we moved aside allowing customers to exit, I discerned their satisfaction and gained hope. Our turn would come soon enough and we too would experience such satisfaction!
Throughout the Bible, God often spoke into people’s lives and required they wait for the timing of His fulfillment. God Spoke to Noah 120 year prior to fulfillment; Abraham waited 25 years; Joseph waited 13 years; Moses waited 40 years; David waited 13 years. And my God sized dream won’t happen overnight.
Do you find yourself waiting? Whether waiting for the best pancakes in Nashville, a new baby to arrive, the fulfillment of the desire of your heart, a job opportunity, direction for the next season in life, waiting has a purpose!
Don’t waste the wait! Here are a few things we can consider as we wait:
- Anticipate the satisfaction that will come with reaching our goal.
- Learn from and enjoy from those around us as we wait.
- Appreciate the process.
- Be persistent – don’t abandon the line!
- Help and encourage others along the way.
- Learn from those who have been there.
I can’t say if they were the best pancakes in Nashville, because once inside, I ordered French Toast! And they were well worth the wait! Now back to Lexington to continue the process of waiting on the fulfilment of the desire of my heart!
Friend, what is one thing you can do today as you wait?

Gloria, I have really enjoyed this blog you wrote in waiting and I have shared it all week with friends. My husband was encouraged and talked me about it and again, I’m greatful for the Godly and wise women He has placed in the oath of me waiting. Keep writing friend, sharing that wisdom He is using you always. ❤️
Nikki, It brings great joy to my soul to know God is encouraging you through these words. I’m overjoyed to be used of Him. You are a true encourager and I’m thankful for you!
