Low Hanging Branches Can Flip You

My husband and I enjoy the responsibility of mowing and we sometimes even fight over who gets to mow!

There have been days I rushed home from work in hopes of beating him to the mower but when I pulled down our long lane, I found I was too late.  He was already planted in the seat mowing, but he is gracious enough to give me a turn – sometimes.

When we purchased our 5-acre country home, we knew we needed to invest in a good mower.  The mower came equipped with a roll bar.  As much as I appreciate this safety feature, I have a constant concern I will get so caught up in the task of mowing, I may forget the roll bar’s existence and flip the mower on a low hanging branch.

For my safety, I became determined to cut every possible low hanging branch that proved to be a threat.  One evening, when I arrived home from work, I quickly traded in my dress clothes and heels for a worn pair of jeans, slipped on my boots to head outside.  I hooked up a trailer to the ATV and navigate to the front woods.  I began to trim every low hanging branch that I could.  Before I knew it, the trailer was full.

As I admired my work, I realized how similar this task is to my spiritual life.  Anything that proves to be a threat or anything that causes me to stumble should be removed.

 Matthew 5:29-30 NKJV

29 If your right eye causes you to sin, pluck it out and cast it from you; for it is more profitable for you that one of your members perish, than for your whole body to be cast into hell. 30 And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and cast it from you; for it is more profitable for you that one of your members perish, than for your whole body to be cast into hell.

Removing objects that trip me up in my spiritual walk is a constant task as threats seem to pop up daily!

What about you?  What are the low hanging branches that prove to be a threat in your spiritual life?  Can you trim their presence to protect yourself?
